Apollo 16 astronaut Charlie Duke
visiting with researchers and students
in our new electron microprobe lab. Displayed
on the large monitor is a "back-scattered
electron" image
of small rock fragments from an Apollo
16 soil that he collected and brought back
to Earth in April, 1972. E&PS researcher
Dr. Ryan Zeigler, working with research
associate professors Korotev and Jolliff, is actively
studying the diverse origins of the
rock fragments. Charlie described the experience
of doing field geology and collecting these
samples when he was on the Moon.
