Another new meteorite specimen
for our museum - A piece (cut and polished)
of the the Faucett (H5)
ordinary chondrite from Buchanan
County, Missouri. All the bright spots are grains
of iron-nickel metal. Here's the description from Catalogue
of Meteorites (2000): "Following the discovery of the first
12 lb stone in 1966, at least seven others
have been found, totaling over 100 kg in
weight. They are internally fresh and may
have fallen in the summer of 1907." H5 chondrites are the
most common type of meteorite to fall from
the sky.

is really in focus even though it looks
out of focus. Click on image for enlargement

view where
the metal grains are not reflecting
and a
great photo of one of the smaller stones.)
